Catchy commercials have an uncanny ability to embed themselves in our memories. Whether it’s the iconic “Wassup!” Budweiser ad or the classic “Where’s the Beef?” Wendy’s commercial, these ads linger long after we’ve seen them. In a world where urbanites encounter approximately 5,000 commercial messages daily, standing out is crucial. A memorable commercial ensures that your brand remains etched in the viewer’s mind, even amidst the noise of countless other ads.
The first advertisement that comes to mind when I think of catchy advertisements is the Liberty Mutual "liberty bibberty" commercial. I think the main reason this commercial sticks out to me is because of the humor and catchy song in it. At liberty biberty (youtube.com)
Most advertisements that get stuck in my head and stick out to me are the ones with silly songs or funny catch phrases! Another example of an advertisement that gets stuck in my head is the Burger King “Whopper Whopper Whopper” commercial. I find myself randomly singing it all the time and that is absolutely the point of having an annoying catchy commercial! When someone randomly sings the commercial it makes them think of what they are singing about, with the company or brand on their mind it is easier to get customers!

The best commercials inspire conversations. They evoke emotions—whether through humor, shock, or heartwarming moments—that prompt viewers to share their experiences with others. Social media amplifies this effect, turning catchy ads into viral sensations. When people talk about your commercial, they’re essentially doing your marketing for you. So, aim for that emotional connection that sparks dialogue and sharing.
Effective commercials also can go beyond product promotion. They portray a brand’s voice and identity. When viewers watch an ad, they should think, “This brand is for people like me.” Whether it’s Apple’s minimalist elegance or Nike’s empowering spirit, the best commercials communicate the essence of the brand. They align with the values and aspirations of their target audience.
Another effective way to grab the attention of customers is through bright colors and visuals. What comes to my mind immediately is when you are sitting in the movie theater, and they play the commercial of popcorn being popped and a nice Coke being poured into an icy glass. That commercial immediately makes me want what is on the screen!

Overall, visuals and catchy songs/ skits are both two great ways to make an impression on an audience and influence customers to buy your product!
